the phantom limb: a digital rendering experiment

practice practice practice

here are some loose studies i did last night based on drawings by Kirby and Krigstein. man those guys can draw. i'm trying to practice different ways of drawing/inking.

these are mostly kirby:

and these are all krigstein. i especially like the one on the bottom left, the figure is krigstein's, but i took it into my own place with the inking. i feel like im finally starting to get something distinctive going with my brush work. slowly but surely ;p

i'm sort of on posting haitus while i work on thesis.

in the meantime i found this grade 3 masterpiece this morning - check out that epic mustache.

also i really liked the crow.

a lil autumn tribute

a charcoal portrait

i just finished these two for an upcoming halloween group show.

my nephew is only 3 but i hope resources like Guy's Read will be around when he's a little older. we love reading - and we have excellent taste in illustration!

drawings from my nephew's 3rd birthday party this afternoon!

i also played cats, firefighters, freeze-tag and was a foot eating tickle monster. yeah, i party hard. i did not get a loot bag though :C

Radiolab - words that change the world

and accompanying video

Susan Schaller believes that the best idea she ever had in her life had to do with an isolated young man she met one day at a community college. He was 27-years-old at the time, and though he had been born deaf, no one had ever taught him to sign. He had lived his entire life without language--until Susan found a way to reach out to him.

phenomenal episode!

it's exhibition season so fall must be around the corner. why does it always rain while the exhibition is open? all my exhibition memories involve me on a fast ride getting wet.

eez a card i made. i've been looking at a lot of retro children's illustration lately!

an oldie but goodie, very loosely referenced from a photo in Vice mag although i think life would be a little bit cooler if we all looked more like this.

looking through art from last year, i really like where this was going. especially dig the hands.

rhianna and some other freaky faced woman from one of those magazines. you know the ones.
